How to Select a Mentor and How A Mentor Helps You Succeed

I often hear stories about people who want to get going on their Internet business fast and either decide to do it on their own with special packages, CDs and lots of trial and error or they get involved with some coaching program and it doesnt quite work out right.

Its time I laid out a few of my experiences and give you my viewpoint on mentors and what they can really do for you.

In the world of Internet Marketing, we are often individually holed up in our homes or offices, mining the Internet for opportunities and creating our empires. There are many ways you can become successful on the Internet, but most involve the hard way, costly way, long way or mentor way. The hard way is to do it yourself. The costly way is to do it yourself. The long way is to do it yourself. Then, there is the mentor way.

You may have heard of many success stories in the industry and how they made it, but no one will tell you that it was hard, costly and long. It is these people who we need to be grateful for, and to ask for help. No matter whom we meet, from guru to newbie, they thank some mentor for getting them where they are, or started. There is a big barrier that prevents many people from achieving their ultimate Internet dreams, but it is a big fat lie.

You need to approach internet marketing keeping 4 things in mind:

1. Knowing where you are – and WHY

2. Knowing where you are going – and WHY

3. Knowing the best way to get there

4. Getting there quickly and easily

Having a mentor lets you model a successful person. Why do you think shows such as “The Apprentice” are so enticing? It isn’t just the media exposure, but for the winner it is a chance to work closely with a billionaire such as Donald Trump. Guess what that would do for your expectations and mindset? You would be influenced by persons who have mastered their art. For anyone considering getting a mentor, even though the cost may seem high, if you choose based on a mentor analysis, you will get someone who you can depend on to get you to the top, faster, easier, and in the long run, cheaper. By carefully analyzing your mentor you can learn whether you can get access via teleseminar or email, get access to their support staff and other important information.

You should focus on the time access to the mentor and pick one mentor to start and stay focused. Know how long have they been around and what are their Success Stories, Personality, Price. A mentor can only help in the ratio you are willing to make things happen. Mentors aren’t a magic pill designed to paint your world and make it all better for you. They are the role models and the people who have created a system that is working. It has been tested and proven to work for others, and can also work for you.

You have a lot on your plate with your goals, implementing all of the steps, creating a product, meeting people, getting your mentor, selling, marketing, growing, and juggling it, all at the same time. At some point you will need to build a team around you, and that will include your mentors, JV partners, friends, family, subcontracts and eventually staff, to handle all of the stuff you don’t want to.

As a mentor myself, I know there are tons of choices out there, and I wish you the best with your selection and team.

Las Vegas Monte Carlo Fire backdrop to Internet Marketing Master’s Event

I was in Las Vegas this weekend at the Master’s Seminar with many people you will recognize, and it was surreal to be watching the black billowing smoke come off the top of the Monte Carlo.

I was standing beside Simon Leung who while accessing his email gets this over the wire service. It doesn’t sound possible on this beautiful sunny day, but given it was a break, and my room had a perfect view from the Monte Carlo, I was about to find out for myself.

And sure enough, the fire brigade was already there, camera crews were capturing it live, and I got to watch everyone react as fire crews worked to get it out rapidly. It made me think I should have been an investigative reporter – some might call it being at the right place at the right time – if you looked at things from the optimistic view point of life. I was at Universal Studios the moment the Hollywood Hills fire started, and spent most of our visit on the studio tour because the back lot had the best view of it. We watched for hours from an amazing vantage point as it spread like wild fire (now I see where that saying comes from), and helicopter crews captured video while planes dropped water and black smoke filled the skies. I was in New York city years back at the World Trade Center when the bomb went off in the basement garage. Seems to be a fire them involved, but either way I get to witness first hand a lot of fascinating events.

The Monte Carlo ended up with just superficial damage, the façade really, and it made me think about how that relates to Las Vegas. The front is the façade of trillions of dollars in money, it just takes cracking the code and finding what you relate to. It’s like internet marketing too. There is billions of dollars being made, but you need to discover which field speaks to you. Some like affiliate marketing, some adwords, traffic, niche marketing, mini-sites, and the list is endless for what you can do – but somewhere in there is something that you’re really good at – and is the best path for your progress. Really a form of quantum leap thinking – getting to the heart of an issue before you jump out of the plane, or listening to your gut and opening the parachute on the way down.

It was another great visit with Sean Roach, Pat Lovell, Paulie Sabol, Donna Fox, Simon Leung, Robert Butwin, Warren Whitlock, Harris Fellman, Tahir Shaw, Terry Telford, Rob and Dan the graphic guys.

And a pleasure to meet some people for the first time – Willie Crawford, Sterling Valentine, Millionaire Mike, Ben Mack, Ross Goldberg, Jason Henderson (you must see the height on this guy it is spectacular).

I was invited by Ross as a VIP and agreed to attend to check out his show format, as he had invited me to be a speaker and because I didn’t know him, needed to be sure. The good news is you will see me July 18, 19, 20th in Chicago at the Ross’s next Master’s Seminar.

Tracy at the World Internet Summit Day 2

World Internet Summit Day 2 – and the audience is primed for results.

It starts with the Speaker’s Parade – where really we just give a brief overview of what we’re going to speak about and when. Let’s them, and the speakers plan their time there.

My presentation was the “7 Critical Blocks to Building Your Internet Marketing Empire”

I believe that with a solid foundation and treating your venture into internet marketing like a business, that is where the true fruits of this field are realized.

It’s the “Get rich quick” mentality that causes so many people to abandon Internet marketing – because some give that impression that it is fast and easy and push of the button, and perhaps a few lucky ones get it like that – but I haven’t met anyone yet that didn’t work hard in the beginning to reap the harvest later.

So on this day I got to hang out with Tim Brocklehurst – he deals with viral marketing methods.

Robert Puddy came up from Bristol to catch up with old friends. Between Pat Lovell and Sean Roach it was old home week from Britpack.

Sean Roach spoke the next day, and from every show I’ve seen him at, it was a typical table rush moment filled with people waving order froms like a stock exchange run. Sean has this cycle down to an art form. I enjoy watching him on stage as he loves what he does.

My top advice if you’re just getting started – invest in a mentor, and a good landing page – because if you’re not capturing the traffic – you are throwing away 97% of your future prospects, and that’s not good business sense.
